Abala M. Wanga is a distinguished public servant and governance expert, presently serving as the City Manager of Kisumu City. In this capacity, he spearheads the transformation of Kisumu into a smart city and oversees the implementation of the recently launched Kisumu City Local Physical and Land Use Development Plan (LPLUDP), affordable housing projects, and development approvals and controls. With a career spanning over two decades in public service, Mr. Wanga has held pivotal roles including as the inaugural Secretary/CEO of the Kisumu Lakefront Development Corporation (KLDC) and as CEO of the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB), encompassing fourteen counties within the Lake Victoria Basin. His career commenced in the health sector, where he served in various capacities, notably as the CEO of the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB). Mr. Wanga is an alumnus of Strathmore University Business School, holding an MBA, and Kampala International University, where he obtained an LLB. Additionally, he holds a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from the Kenya Medical Training Centre. Mr. Wanga’s expertise in devolved systems, constitutional law, and governance has significantly influenced strategic management practices, catalyzing national and international development initiatives.
