Department Overview

 

Communications and Corporate Affairs Department is focused on managing and shaping the Kisumu City’s reputation and relationships with its stakeholders. It involves both Internal and External Communications, Media Relations, Public Relations, and Stakeholder Engagement.

 

Vision

Communications and Corporate Affairs Vision is to build and maintain a positive reputation for the City of Kisumu, ensure effective and consistent communication with all stakeholders and support the City’s overall vision and objectives.

 

Roles and Objectives

  • Internal Communications:

Managing communication within the organization to keep Kisumu City employees informed, engaged, and aligned with City’s values and vision.

  • External Communications:

Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders like the Media, Investors, Government, and the Public.

  • Media Relations

Managing relationships with the News Media to ensure positive and accurate coverage of the organization.

  • Social Media

Ensure Kisumu City’s positive online reputation and engagement with external stakeholders on all social media platforms like X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok YouTube etc., in line with today’s technological advancement.

  • Public Relations

Crafting and disseminating messages to create a positive public image for the organization.

Building and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders, including customers, partners, and community members.

  • Corporate Affairs:

Organizing community outreach programs and developing and implementing CSR initiatives.  Advocate for the company’s interests, and Ensure responsible and ethical business practices.

 

Mr. Aaron Ochieng is a veteran journalist and a communications expert with over 20 years’ experience in the media industry. Currently holding the position of Director of Communication and Corporate Affairs, he is a member of the US based National Association of Black Journalist (NABJ) as well as Media Council of Kenya (MCK). He holds a Master’s Degree in Communications from Howard University (HU) in Washington DC, Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications from Kampala International University (KIU) and a Diploma in Mass Communications from Kenya Institute of Mass Communications (KIMC).

Mr Ochieng has vast experience in Strategic Communication, having formulated and implemented various media strategies and campaigns in the Corporate sector, Political Parties & Aspirants and Private Media Companies. His experience in the mainstream media has seen him work for Voice of America (VOA) in Washington DC, Standard Media Group’s Kenya Television Network (KTN), Nation Media Group’s NTV in Kenya and Uganda, Union of Radio and Television Network of Africa (URTNA), and Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS).
