Kisumu City has taken bold steps to strengthen its revenue collection systems, following a strategic meeting held this morning between City Manager Abala Wanga and the Chief Executive Officer of the Kisumu Revenue Board, Philip Adundo.
The meeting brought together Ward Revenue Officers from all 14 wards within the city, alongside Ward Enforcement Officers, to deliberate on new measures aimed at boosting own-source revenue and ensuring greater accountability.
Key Resolutions
• Digital Transformation: Each ward will be equipped with tablet devices to streamline revenue collection and enhance transparency.
• Ward-Based Operations: Revenue and enforcement officers will now be strictly confined to their designated wards, minimizing overlaps and improving efficiency.
• Identification & Accountability: Officers will be issued with official identification badges to reinforce credibility and ease of recognition by the public.
Leadership Emphasis
City Manager Wanga and CEO Adundo underscored the importance of teamwork between revenue and enforcement officers, stressing that collaboration is essential to achieving the city’s financial goals. They noted that the reforms are designed not only to increase revenue but also to build public trust in Kisumu’s financial management systems.
“These measures will empower our officers, strengthen accountability, and ensure that Kisumu City continues to grow sustainably,” said Mr. Wanga.
Mr. Adundo added that the initiative reflects the county’s commitment to modernizing revenue collection and aligning with best practices in urban governance.
Broader Impact
The new strategies are expected to significantly enhance Kisumu’s capacity to generate revenue internally, reducing reliance on external funding and enabling the city to invest more in infrastructure, public services, and community development.
