Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o has said that the desire to impact Kisumu County’s socio-infrastructural development remains his primary mission. Speaking when he hosted a delegation from Yiyang City, Hunan Province, China, which was led by Tin Yinjie, a deputy director from Yiyang’s Municipal Bureau of Commerce, Nyong’o added that the visit laid a foundation for long-term practical exploration of growth opportunities for the people of Kisumu.
“This delegation is a prime potential partner in urban development, waste and sewerage treatment, affordable housing, and security surveillance projects,” he added.
The delegation, which includes senior officials and business leaders from Yiyang’s municipal government and state-owned enterprises, aims to engage with the County’s leadership to discuss and explore partnerships in affordable housing, waste and sewage treatment, and security surveillance projects. The purpose of the visit to Kisumu is to foster bilateral ties and explore collaborative opportunities in key sectors critical to sustainable urban development, specifically: exploring partnerships to enhance Kisumu’s affordable housing initiatives, particularly in the Anderson and Makasembo projects; waste and sewage treatment, which involves discussing innovative solutions for waste management and sewage treatment to promote environmental sustainability in Kisumu; and security surveillance projects, which evaluate potential collaborations to improve urban safety through advanced surveillance technologies

“We already have an impact from similar partnerships in the KEDA Ceramics International outfit in Miwani, where hundreds of our people are employed and business/trade opportunities are explored,” Governor Nyongo said.
The visit is expected to lay the foundation for long-term partnerships, fostering knowledge exchange and investment opportunities aligned with Kisumu County’s vision for inclusive and sustainable growth.
Present during the function were Mama Kisumu Dorothy Nyong’o, County Secretary Hesbon Hongo, CECMs George Okong’o (Finance), Judith Oluoch (Water and Environment), Dr. Charles Konyango (Lands and Urban Development), City Manager Abala Wanga, County Attorney Otieno Aluoka, and other county leaders.
