Kisumu City Board of Management, led by Chairman Eng. Kenneth Nyangaga and City Manager Abala Wanga, on Friday morning conducted an inspection tour of Kibuye Market following a disaster that occurred on Thursday evening. A section of the market’s roof collapsed after a heavy downpour, leaving traders counting losses.
During the visit, the County Government of Kisumu assured the affected traders of compensation. The directive, issued by Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o, was conveyed to the traders by City Manager Wanga and Chief Officer in the Office of the Governor, Nyakwamba Kajwang’.
City Board Member in charge of Infrastructure, Prof. Silvance Abeka, also addressed the traders. He promised that the structural integrity of the market would be thoroughly assessed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The county leadership emphasized its commitment to ensuring the safety of traders and the continued operation of Kibuye Market, which remains a vital economic hub for Kisumu and the wider region.
