Kisumu has secured a landmark Ksh 10.6 billion investment under the Lake Victoria West Water and Sanitation (LVWATSAN) program, set to revolutionize access to clean water and sanitation in Kisumu City and Maseno.
This initiative—executed by KIWASCO and overseen by the City of Kisumu—will deliver water to 25,000 new households and connect 1,700 more to the sewerage system. It also prioritizes water and sanitation access for 4,968 affordable housing units in Lumumba, Makasembo, and the proposed LV Marina at Otonglo.
Aiming to cut water loss to 28%, LVWATSAN seeks to bolster KIWASCO’s financial stability and strengthen institutional resilience. Despite facing community resistance to the proposed Otonglo Sewerage Treatment Plant, efforts to move forward continue.
During today’s project inspection, Water Cabinet Secretary Eng. Eric Murithi Mugar officially handed over a jet flush truck and non-revenue water equipment to KIWASCO, marking a major milestone in the project’s rollout.
